Types of VET Courses in Germany

There are 330+ vocational courses conducted at various centers offering courses in the “Ausbildung” system. Out of these 120 courses have industry sponsorship attached with it meaning the students will be able to get stipend from the industry and an employment confirmation from the sponsoring industry.

However, 6 segments have the highest demand among these consisting of 40% of total industrial vacancies and our company is currently focusing on these 6 segments to ensure a large number of Indian students make use of this opportunity.

All the VET courses are conducted in German language and accordingly, a student needs to clear up to B1 level for Non healthcare course and up to B2 level of German language for healthcare focused VET programs.

Industry Sponsorship

During the 2-3 years of program in Germany, the student is paid the “Training Allowance” or stipend varying from EUR 900 to EUR 1,300. This amount is sufficient for the students to take care of their “living cost in Germany” including the health insurance costs.

The industries participating in the VET courses always offer the stipend to ensure that the students get used to their required level of skills and the trainers are provided by them. The facilities and the infrastructure of the training center is either outsourced (80% of the VET centers are set up by the government under Ministry of Skills & Crafts) or it is a part of the industry (20% of VET courses are run in house).

The industries sponsor the healthcare skilled workforce to get trained at their own investment due to their in house demand of the skilled workers. The total cost of training for each of the students is around EUR 36,000 towards stipend and EUR 24,000 towards the training infrastructure along with the salary of the trainers.

It is estimated that EUR 60,000 needs to be spent by the industry for each healthcare worker while around EUR 40,000 is invested by the industry for training a non-healthcare worker.

German Certificate for IGSP

At the end of the VET program, a certificate is issued by the center which is acceptable in the industry throughout Germany. Any student can get a concurrent certificate in case they change the federal / state within Germany. Further, all the German industries offering similar jobs within the industry would accept the student at an average salary of EUR 35,000 per year. This is almost 10X in comparison to Indian earning standards or potential.

Guaranteed Job after Certification

The sponsoring industry which has invested EUR 60,000 on each of the healthcare workers during their training aims to fill its vacancies with the same person. After the training, each of the certificate holding candidate suddenly comes in huge demand since they are meeting with the requirements such as:

  • German language proficiency
  • Certificate of the Skill course completion
  • Trained as per German standards
  • Readiness to settle down in Germany
